Update: 30.09.2026

Last week, the team completed the open-cut works on Chalkpit Wood.

This week, half of the team will complete the live insertion works on Barnetts Shaw, bringing the works in this area to completion. The other half of the team will move to Chichele Road, where they will carry out live insertion works from property 19 to property 39.

Next week, the team will remain on Chichele Road, carrying out live insertion works from the junction with Barrow Green Road, past the junction with Silkham Road and up to approximately property 30.

Planned road and traffic management changes:

• Chalkpit Wood: Due to open on 8 October 2026
• Barnetts Shaw: Traffic lights due to be removed on 16 October 2026
• Chichele Road: Due to open on 6 November 2026

Update 17.09.2026

Last week, preparation works were carried out on Barnett’s Shaw, from the junction with Chalkpit Wood to the junction with Memorial Close.

This week, we are carrying out the dead insertion of the gas main along the section of Barnett’s Shaw prepared last week. Approximately 70m of gas main will also be installed, in Chalkpit Wood, running into Eastlands Way.

Next week, we plan to carry out the live insertion of approximately 75m of gas main to complete the works on Barnett’s Shaw. The remaining connections will also be completed to tie the mains together, bringing this section of the project to completion.

Eastlands Way is forecast to reopen on 24/09/26. Chalkpit Wood and Barnetts Shaw are due to open on 28/09/26 and the closure will be replaced with traffic lights to allow for reinstatement of the road.   

Update: 01.09.2026

Last week, the team continued work on Station Road East, preparing for 105 meters of open-cut works and completing the connection opposite Amy Road.

Next week, part of the team will move to Chalkpit Wood to prepare for the upcoming open-cut works. The remaining team members will stay on Station Road East to complete the abandonment of the existing gas main and reinstate the gas supply into the main.

Update: 19.08.2026

Last week, the team installed 85m of new gas main along Station Road East and completed the connection in Amy Road.

This week, the team will install a further 40m of gas main along Station Road East.

Next week, two teams will work collaboratively on the opposite side of Station Road East, near Waitrose, to complete the remaining 110m of open-cut works.

Update: 05.08.2026

Our WCB Utilities team successfully laid 75 meters of new gas main on Station Road East last week.

This week, work will continue further along Station Road East, progressing towards the junction with Beatrice Road.

Next week, the team will continue beyond the Beatrice Road junction, laying a further 100m of main past the junction with Amy Road. This means Station Road East will be closed for a further four weeks until the 31st of August.
