SOE18945 – Buckland Road, Maidstone (Buckland Road / Buckland Hill)
PROJECT: SOE18945
Location: Buckland Road, Maidstone
(Buckland Road, London Road, Buckland Hill)
Update: 29.04.2026
Project complete.
Update: 17.03.2026
The team is currently working on Buckland Hill and Buckland Road, with works expected to take approximately 3–4 weeks, subject to progress.
This week, the team is carrying out an open-cut trench to connect the 4-inch main to the 6-inch main. Next week, the team will continue from this connection, completing works across approximately 15 services up to the next junction.
Following this, over two four-day working weeks, the team will complete all final connections and reinstatement works.
Due to the nature of the works and resulting traffic congestion in the area, we kindly ask that anyone who does not need access to these roads uses alternative routes wherever possible.
We thank everyone for their patience and cooperation while these essential works are completed.
Update: 16.12.2025
Project completed for now. We will return in February 2026.
Update: 02.12.2025
Last week, the section over the railway bridge was fully reinstated, and our road closure was moved to outside 27 Buckland Hill. Our team also successfully replaced 140m of gas main from outside No. 27 to outside No. 37.
This week, the team is planning a 50m pipe push on Tuesday, followed by the relaying of the remaining four services heading toward London Road.
We have been asked to prioritise completing this section before progressing further. As a result, the area from outside No. 1 to outside No. 11B will need to be replanned, and we will return at a later date to complete this remaining section of Buckland Hill.
Our Apologies
We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience these works have caused. Unfortunately, the project has encountered several unexpected engineering challenges, which have affected our schedule. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we continue delivering these essential safety and reliability upgrades.
Update: 19.11.2025
Progress Last Week
We successfully completed the section on Buckland Hill, working from the junction with Buckland Road to the junction with Hubert Walter Drive.
This Week’s Works
Our team is now working on the section across the railway bridge. Due to the location, a representative from Network Rail is required to be on site throughout these works to ensure safe operation.
Next Week’s Works
Next week we will continue on Buckland Hill, working from London Road down to the junction with Buckland Hill.
These closures are expected to remain in place until 07/12/2025.
We apologise for the inconvenience these works have caused. Unfortunately, the project has faced several unexpected engineering challenges, which have impacted our programme. We appreciate your patience and cooperation while we complete these essential upgrades.
Update: 05.11.2025
We are pleased to confirm that traffic lights have now been removed from both London Road and Buckland Hill.
However, road closures remain in place at:
St Peter’s Street side of Buckland Hill
Buckland Road junction with Buckland Hill.
Our team is currently working on a severely deteriorated gas main, which is making progress more challenging than usual. Despite these difficulties, we are targeting the installation of 100 metres of new main this week, followed by a further 100 metres next week.
We sincerely apologise for the ongoing disruption, especially where alternative parking arrangements have been required. Please be assured that these works are essential to ensure a safe and reliable gas supply, bringing long-term benefits to the community.
Thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we complete this vital work.
Update: 21.10.2025
This week, our team has set up road closures on Buckland Hill, at both the junction with London Road and the junction with Buckland Road.
Access is available via St Peter’s Street, and a signed diversion is in place to guide residents safely to where we’re working.
This week, we’re focusing on completing works at the four-way junction, inserting the new gas main while traffic levels are lower during the school half-term.
This closure will remain in place for two weeks, after which (from week commencing 3 November) the closure will move further down Buckland Hill, between the railway bridge and London Road.
During this phase, access will be via Buckland Road only.
This second closure will also remain in place for approximately two weeks, while we carry out abandonment of the old gas main and reconnect all gas services to the new one.
We’re aiming to complete all works by the end of November.
Thank you to residents and road users for your continued patience and cooperation while we carry out these essential improvements.
