SOE15620 – Loose Road, Maidstone
Update: 03.06.2025
PROJECT: SOE15620
Location: Loose Road, Maidstone
Update: 03.06.2025
Our WCB Utilities teams completed over 3000m of gas mains replacement on Cripple Street, Loose Road and Boughton Lane to make this network safe.
Update: 20.05.2025
We have currently replaced over 800m of gas main on Boughton Lane, Cripple Street and Loose Road. This week and next, we will continue to replace the mains in these three roads with a estimation of 2000m to be renewed.
We are still finishing on 1st June 2025 with the road open by that evening. Our teams have all made great progression along these roads.
Please can all road users stick to the official diversion route as the side roads are very narrow and these roads cannot sustain any large volume of traffic.
Update: 13.05.2025
SGN have been repairing the major gas mains network along Loose road over the last month. Every time they completed a repair, a further leak occurs along the main. This is due to the deterring condition of these mains.
Rather than continue, we have tasked with replacing all of the mains at the Cripple Street / Boughton Lane / Loose Road junction. This will ensure this junction has no metallic mains in the junction and it will be polyethylene which has a lifespan or 80 years.
We have five gas teams on site all working together to get this completed.
Team one are working on the two gas mains along Cripple Street.
Team two are working on the three gas mains along Boughton Lane.
Team three are working on the three gas mains south of the junction on Loose Road.
Team four are working on the three gas mains north of the junction on Loose Road.
Team five are spending time working on connections or any additional unrecorded mains found.
This four way junction has been fully closed off and will remain closed until Sunday 1st June, we are going to get as much of these mains around and working away from the four way junction, within this timeframe with a priority to the four way junction.
We also have five TM operatives strategically place around the area to stop any HGV’s attempting to get through the small lanes. We have placed a TTRO which is a legal document to state they should not be using any of the roads leading to Cripple Street. Any lorry using this route should be reported to the police.
We appreciate the frustrations these works are causing to you all and we appreciate your patience as we make this network safe again.
