Last week, we completed the open-cut section of Purley Downs Road between Purley Bury Avenue and Yew Tree Walk, including the connections into Norman Avenue.
This week, our work remains on Purley Downs Road, where we are carrying out insertion works from the junction with Penwortham Road up to the southern railway bridge. We are also relaying the final services to complete the works along the road.
Next week, the team will move out of the area to begin work on a new project.
Planned road openings:
• Norman Avenue: 7 October 2026
• Purley Bury Avenue: 7 October 2026
• Purley Downs Road: 16 October 2026
• Penwortham Road: 22 October 2026
Update: 17.09.2026
Last week, approximately 200m of new gas main was inserted, running from the junction with Norman Avenue to the junction with Penwortham Road.
This week, we are carrying out approximately 90m of open-cut excavation, from the junction of Purley Bury Avenue to the junction of Yew Tree Walk. Existing gas services will also be renewed, and a camera survey will be carried out to assess the main running under the railway bridge.
Next week, we plan to complete the remaining connections into Purley Bury Avenue and Penwortham Road. Approximately 70m of main will then be inserted, running from Penwortham Road to the railway bridge. This final section will complete the road works and bring the project to completion.
Norman Avenue is due to open on 25/09/26. Purley Bury Avenue is due to open on 02/10/26. Penwortham Road and Purley Downs Road are both due to open on 16/10/26, to allow time to reinstate the road.
