SOE7171 – Halfway Road, Sheerness (Halfway Road)
PROJECT: SOE7171
Location: Halfway Road, Sheerness
(Halfway Road)
Update: 10.02.2026
Project complete.
Update: 27.01.2026
Halfway Road has been closed since 5 January and will remain closed for a further five weeks while essential gas mains upgrade works are carried out.
The team will be completing an open-cut trench of approximately 300 metres, crossing the bridge and connecting into the governor. This work is required to increase gas pressures for the surrounding area.
Programme of Works
Week Commencing 5 January
Investigation works and trial holes were completed to confirm the safest and most efficient trench route.
Week Commencing 12 January
Trenching works will begin, including removal of the top surface layer.
Week Commencing 19 January
Trenching will continue, and the team will begin assembling and installing sections of the new pipework.
Week Commencing 26 January
Installing the full length of the gas main over 300m will be installed and start to gas up.
Week commencing 2 February
The final connections and reinstatement will take place for the road to be re-opened by the 9th of Feb.
This phase of work is time-consuming due to the upsizing of the gas main, which requires a continuous open trench, rather than the insertion method normally used.
We apologise for the inconvenience these works may cause and thank residents and road users for their patience while we complete this essential upgrade to the gas network.
