SOE15242 – Balcombe Road, Horley (Avondale Close / Bolters Road)
PROJECT: SOE15242
Location: Balcombe Road, Horley
(Avondale Close / Bolters Road)
Update: 08.07.2026
Over the past two weeks, the team has been carrying out gas mains replacement works on Avondale Close and Bolters Road.
During the works, it became apparent that the location and extent of the existing gas mains differed from the original records. As a result, a greater length of gas main requires replacement than was initially anticipated. The team is also undertaking investigation works, as gas pressure levels are lower than expected, and it may be necessary to install an additional link to improve network performance.
This week, the team is aiming to complete approximately 120 metres of gas main replacement. The remaining connections between Avondale Close and Bolters Road are scheduled to be completed during the week commencing 13 July.
We would like to thank residents for their continued patience, understanding and cooperation while these essential works are carried out to help maintain a safe and reliable gas network.
Update: 19.06.2026
The team has been working on Wheatfield Way. Unfortunately, it has become apparent that not all of the required pipework can be installed using insertion methods as originally anticipated. As a result, a section of the work will now need to be completed using open-cut trench excavation.
We are unable to undertake this element of the work at present, as it will require a road closure to be carried out safely. The team will complete as much of the work as possible using insertion techniques before returning at a later date to undertake the remaining excavation works.
We are currently proposing to return in September, subject to securing the necessary road space and traffic management approvals.
Residents will be notified again before the works recommence. We would like to thank residents for their continued patience, understanding, and cooperation while these essential works are carried out to help maintain a safe and reliable gas network.
Update: 02.06.2026
The team is currently carrying out works on Wheatfield Way under temporary traffic lights. Last week saw a preparation week completed this is due to the ground conditions on this road are extremely tough and difficult to break through. This week the team are looking at completing a further 150m push. The team are anticipating that the ground conditions do improve and we can start to progress quicker.
The team is expected to remain on Wheatfield Way for approximately four weeks to complete the full gas mains replacement programme under traffic management.
We would like to thank residents and road users for their continued patience and cooperation while these essential works are carried out.
