WCB Utilities is a growing and reputable utilities contractor delivering gas infrastructure works across the UK. We pride ourselves on safety, compliance, and collaboration, working with local authorities, clients, and the public. As our workload continues to expand, we are looking to appoint an experienced Traffic Management Planner to support our operational teams.
The Role
As a Traffic Management Planner, you will play a key role in the successful planning and delivery of utility works by producing compliant traffic management designs and supporting road space applications. You will work closely with site supervisors, site teams, local authorities, and traffic management providers to ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently, and with minimal disruption.
Key Responsibilities
• Produce compliant traffic management plans in line with Chapter 8, NRSWA, and local authority requirements
• Plan and coordinate traffic management for utility works, including road closures, diversions, and multi-phase schemes
• Prepare and submit road space and permit applications
• Liaise with local authorities, clients, and stakeholders to resolve traffic management constraints
• Support site teams with TM queries, changes, and problem-solving
• Review and manage TM ensuring efficiency and value
• Maintain accurate records and documentation
• Ensure safety, compliance, and best practice are maintained at all times
Required
• Proven experience in traffic management planning, ideally within the utilities sector
• Strong working knowledge of NRSWA, Chapter 8, and local authority permit schemes
• Ability to interpret site constraints and develop practical, compliant TM solutions
• Sound understanding of health & safety legislation relevant to highway works
• Confident communicator with the ability to liaise professionally with councils, TM providers and stakeholders
• Ability to ensure TM designs meet statutory and local authority requirements
• Confident communicator, both written and verbal
• Ability to support site teams and respond to changing site conditions
• Ability to react quickly to last-minute changes, emergencies, or authority requests
• Practical mindset with a focus on workable, site-friendly solutions
• Highly organised with strong attention to detail
• Able to work under pressure and manage multiple schemes simultaneously
• Strong Knowledge of Microsoft Excel
Desirable (but not essential)
• Experience preparing and submitting road space and permit applications
• Knowledge of approval processes and conditions imposed by highway authorities
• Experience planning road closures, diversions, multi-phase works, and temporary traffic signals
• LANTRA / TM qualifications
• Experience working on gas or utility frameworks
