Update: 21.10.2025
Good news for residents!
Last week, our closure on Park Avenue/Tudor Avenue was fully removed, with all reinstatement completed and the road reopened. Our team then moved on to Boxley Road, closing it at the junction with Salisbury Road to complete essential engineering works. These were finished last week, with reinstatement taking place over the weekend and into Monday morning. Boxley Road is expected to reopen by late afternoon on Tuesday, 21st October.
This marks the completion of all our gas works across Sandling Lane, Boxley Road, and Penenden Heath Road.
Thank you to everyone in the area for your patience and cooperation while we carried out these essential improvements.
Update: 08.10.2025
Last week saw our team complete all engineering works in Curzon Road, as of Monday the team have started in Park Avenue/Tudor Avenue under a road closure. This closure will remain in this location until works are complete.
Curzon road is fully open now and all site content has been removed.
The team this week are looking to finish all engineering works in Park Avenue by Friday, this means as of next week reinstatement will be taking place and hopefully the road will be open by the end of the week.
As of w.c 13th the team will be working on Boxley Road for two weeks, the closure will be at the junction of Salisbury Road, this is to add a booster main and then all gas work will be completed in Maidstone.
Update: 23.09.2025
The team over the last 2 weeks have just over 250m of mains replacement in Curzon Road. The team are expected to have all engineering works completed in the next 2 weeks this will include the connection onto Park Avenue. Cars are still urged to stop parking in restricted areas to prevent delays in work progression, alternative parking will need to be found.
Once works are completed on Curzon Road the closure will be removed, and the team will move round into Tudor Avenue and Park Avenue for approximately two weeks under a closure.
Update: 09.09.2025
Last week all works on Penenden Heath Road was completed and the summer closure was removed. Our team has now moved into Curzon Road for the next 4 weeks in which they will look to replace the full length of this road. Parking suspensions are in place and enforceable should anyone park in a restricted area. We do apologise for any inconvenience this has caused and will free up spaces once works are completed, in the meantime alternative parking will need to be found.
Update: 26.08.2025
Our works are expected to be site clear by 02/09/25. The team this week will see them complete all gas mains replacement works done. Late part of this week, and Monday next week will see all reinstatement complete and site being cleared as this is done. We appreciate the disruption these works have caused and are thankful for working with us for allowing these works to happen.
Update: 12.08.2025
Our works on Sittingbourne Road have been completed and the lane closure was removed. Our team are now focusing on Penenden Heath Road. Last week saw them connect the mains from Heathfield Road onto Penenden Heath Road. This week the team are looking at inserting and replacing approximately 100m of new plastic pipe. Next week will see them attempt a push of 170m to get down towards Faraday Close. Following on from this on the Bank Holiday week the team won’t be on site Monday but from Tuesday onwards will see us finishing of the last engineering bits and reinstating and backfilling all remaining open excavations.
Update: 29.07.2025
Last week on Friday, saw our closure from Boxley Road removed and cleared and our closure on Penenden Heath Road along with a lane closure on Sittingbourne Road installed. Our team have begun works on Sittingbourne Road / Penenden Heath Road, our lane closure will be in place for another couple of weeks and then removed. However, our closure on Penenden Heath Road will be in place until 01/09/2025. Our team are looking to complete these works as quickly and as safely as possible.
Update: 15.07.2025
Our closure has now moved up to the junction with Rock Road and will be in place to end of the W/c 21st July in which our closure will be removed on Boxley Rod and our closure will be set up on Penenden Heath Road. This closure will be in place for up to 6 weeks. And all our gas mains will be replaced.
Update: 01.07.2025
One team this week has been working on finishing our compulsory gas main up by Heathfield Close, this week will see this all complete and replaced with the new plastic main. This team will then be working on creating a booster main for the area inserting a bigger main for the next two weeks. We have had a second team this week working on the mains replacement outside the shops, our blocks will be removed on Wednesday and our closure moved up so access wil now be via the other entrance of the shops.
Update: 17.06.2025
Our team last week had completed all connections in four directions. The team have moved up towards Heathfield Road this week looking to replace 150m of old metallic gas main to new PE pipe. Our closure will move up by W/c 7th July and all blocks will be removed; however, our closure will be still in place just further along the road.
Update: 03.06.2025
Our team over the next 2 weeks will be tiding up all final connections from Sandling Lane, Boxley Road (South and North) and Penendan Heath Road. This will ensure there is a back feed from all directions increasing pressures in the area that have been poor for many years prior to these works taking place. Our team once completed this will continue down Boxley Road towards town replacing both the 6” and 4” gas mains with new Plastic pipe.
Update: 20.05.2025
Boxley Road (South) has 2 gas mains one on either side of the road. The last 2 weeks has seen the team insert the new gas main from the Shops approximately 400m down. The team are now letting reinstatement catch up on that section and have begun inserting another 400m on the other side. This closure may remain in the same location for a duration until we move further down this road.
Update: 06.05.2025
Our closure on Boxley Road outside The Bull Pub has now been removed and the road is re-opened. Our closure location has moved to the other side of Boxley Road and will remain until late July. This is while we replace the full length of this road. Due to it having x2 Gas mains this is why the duration for th8is closure is so long.
Update: 22.04.2025
Boxley Road end date has now changed by an extra weekend and a Monday (3 days / 1 working day), in which we aim to get the road closure changed over early morning on Monday 28th. Our team have now replaced over 800m of corroding metallic main with our new plastic main, renewing over 85 services to properties and making them safe. Replacing five unrecorded rails and making them safe for the properties they feed. Our team once the closure has been removed on Monday from Outside the Bull Inn, will move south of Boxley Road in which we will progress down towards the Maidstone centre. Hoping to replace an average of 100m per week, due to the service density in this road meterage will be lower however service density will be much more.
Update: 08.04.2025
We will be going into Boxley Road (J/W Neville Close – J/W Sandling Lane) – 10/04/2025 for aiming 2 weeks. The delay is due to concrete curing times and unrecorded gas mains being found and not being able to close both Sandling and Boxley Road at the same time.
After completing Boxley Road in the 2-week window we will then move into Boxley Road (J/w Pendan Heath Road to J/w Rock Road) – Dates looking at W/c 28th April and then the flow of works will remain the same as previous.
The team are working very late nights to ensure all hours of daylight are used to speed this job up, due to us knowing the impact these roads being closed can cause.
Update: 21.03.2025
Our WCB Utilities team are progressing along Sandling Road aiming to have this section complete by W/c 31st March, the closure will then be lifted and the closure will move to Boxley Road for the 2 week school holiday period. Both roads will not be closed at the same time.
Update: 28.02.2025
The closure was put in place on Monday February 24TH, this includes the installation of concrete blocks in the carriageway for the safety of the Public and our workforce on site. Our closure is in place to upgrade the old metallic mains with new plastic PE pipe. Our closure will be done in phases to always allow access to surrounding side roads off Sandling Lane. signed diversions are currently in place and access is maintained for residents and businesses, our team is currently working between 132 Sandling Lane and its junction with Boxley Road, we understand the inconvenience this will cause however, our team is working as quick as they can to ensure we get this closure completed.
