SOE16837 – Earlsfield Road, Wandsworth (Earlsfield Road)
PROJECT: SOE16837
Location: Earlsfield Road, Wandsworth
(Earlsfield Road)
Update: 01.04.2026
Project complete.
Update: 17.03.2026
Last week the team completed approximately 140 metres of work between Bucharest Road and Dingwall Road. This section is currently in the process of being reinstated this week.
While reinstatement works are taking place, the team is continuing with the final 150 metres of works from Dingwall Road to just past Inman Road.
All roadworks are scheduled to be completed by 24 March 2026, after which the site will be fully reinstated and all traffic management, barriers, and equipment removed.
We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation while these essential works are completed.
Update: 24.02.2026
The team is currently working near the junction of St Ann’s Hill and is progressing away from the roundabout. We are aiming to move approximately 80 metres beyond the roundabout over the coming days.
Once reinstatement has been completed, the temporary traffic management will be reduced from three-way lights to two-way lights from Friday morning.
The side junctions will remain closed until we have progressed past them. This approach helps to avoid the need for additional traffic signal heads and reduces overall traffic build-up in the area.
Parking bay suspensions will remain in place. Please do not park in these bays, as enforcement action and fines may be issued.
The team is currently anticipating completion by the week commencing 16 March 2026.
Update: 14.02.2026
The team has begun work on Earlsfield Road, operating under traffic-signal control with associated side-road closures.
Week Commencing 5th
This week focused mainly on investigation works, which identified several defects in the gas main that were causing leaks. In addition, emergency works by the water authority impacted our programme and resulted in some planned pipe pushes being delayed.
As a result, the programme is currently approximately one week behind. However, the water authority works have now been completed, and no further delays are anticipated.
Current & Upcoming Works
Week Commencing 12th
The team has successfully completed a 100-metre pipe push. They will continue completing 100-metre pushes each week for the next four weeks, progressing down Earlsfield Road towards Inman Road.
To maintain traffic flow on the main road:
· Only two side roads will be closed at any one time
· This allows two-way traffic-signal operation on Earlsfield Road
Parking Arrangements
Parking bays along the works area remain suspended and will continue to be suspended as works progress.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation while we carry out these essential gas mains replacement works.
Update: 10.02.2026
Since the start of January, our team has been working on the gas mains replacement project, which will see a total of 800 metres of main replaced and over 120 new services provided.
This gas mains replacement will allow the new infrastructure to have a lifespan of approximately 70 years and will help prevent the need for emergency works on old metallic mains in the future.
Since w/c 5th January, we have successfully replaced the gas main from the junction of St Ann’s Hill to the junction of Dingwall Road, completing around 300 metres of mains replacement.
Over the next two weeks, the team will complete the final 190 metres from Dingwall Road to the junction of Inman Road.
Once this section is completed, the team will return to St Ann’s Hill and begin works under three-way traffic lights during the week commencing 16th February. This will allow us to start work on the
opposite side of the road and complete this section during the half-term week.
Following this, the team will revert to two-way traffic lights and will close side roads as they progress back down from Bassingham Road to the junction of Inman Road over a period of approximately four weeks.
All affected residents will be notified via a card delivered to their property, advising them of the specific day their gas supply will be interrupted.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused by these works, but we hope this long-term investment will prevent the need for further gas mains works on Earlsfield Road in the future.
Update: 27.01.2026
Last week, the team successfully inserted the new gas main from the junction of Bucharest Road to the junction of Brocklebank Road.
This week, the team will be carrying out preparatory works ahead of a pipe push scheduled for Monday 2 February, which will complete the section between Brocklebank Road and Dingwall Road.
The junction of Bucharest Road will be reopened by 28 January. Once this reopens, Dingwall Road will be closed, meaning both Dingwall Road and Brocklebank Road will be closed while this phase of the works is completed.
Parking Arrangements
Parking bays within the works area remain suspended and will continue to be suspended as the works progress.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation while we carry out these essential gas mains replacement works.

Update: 31.10.2025
Progress Last Week
Our team worked from the junction of Farlton Road to outside 47 Atheldene Road, successfully replacing approximately 100 metres of gas main and completing half of the associated service transfers.
Progress This Week
This week, the team continued working on the services along the section inserted last week and completed all remaining service transfers on this stretch.
Planned Works
Monday:
We will complete the final connection from Atheldene Road into Garret Lane. Once this is done, we will begin reinstatement of this area as quickly as possible.
Next Week:
We will complete the remaining small section of insertion from Farlton Road Junction to Waverton Road, followed by reinstatement works. Once this is completed, all works in this section will be finished.
Week Commencing 10th:
The team will then move into Wilna Road and Dingwall Road to begin the next phase of works.
Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation as we progress through this essential upgrade programme.
Update: 08.10.2025
Our team have a road closure on Atheldene Road at the junction with Garratt Lane as we replace the corroding metallic mains in Atheldene Road.
We are working towards Oakshaw Road and have an estimated duration of 4 weeks.
The mains are filled with sealant due to the amount of leaks previously on this main so our phases are smaller than expected.
We will be moving to Dingwall Road and Wilna Road in November.
