SOE13449 – London Road, Uckfield (Snatts Road / Rocks Road)

PROJECT: SOE13449

Location: london Road, Uckfield

(Snatts Road / Rocks Road)

Update: 17.03.2026

Works now conplete.

Update: 24.02.2026

All works scheduled during the half-term period on Rocks Road have now been successfully completed.

The road closure has now moved to the junction of Snatts Road, where it will remain in place for approximately the next 2–3 weeks as we continue progressing towards London Road along Snatts Road.

The team is aiming to complete between 150–250 metres of main installation over the next week, with similar progress targeted the following week.

The road closure will remain in place 24 hours a day, and a signed diversion route is available for those needing access to the opposite side of the closure.

We currently anticipate completing these works in approximately four weeks. At that point, the closure will be removed and all site materials and equipment cleared.

We would like to thank residents and road users for their continued patience and cooperation while we complete these essential works.

WCB Utilities Ltd Project London Road, Uckfield (Cooper Green Road)

Update: 14.02.2026

Coopers Green Road has been closed since 5 January and will remain closed until week commencing 26 January while we replace the full length of the road with a new plastic gas main.
Due to the location of the existing gas main and to ensure the safety of our engineers and the public, these works must be carried out under a full road closure.

Current & Upcoming Works

This week, the team has been carrying out preparation works to enable:
· A 250-metre pipe push this week
· A further 150-metre pipe push the following week
Investigation works have also identified a break in the existing gas main, which will need to be reconnected before the final section can be replaced.

Next Location

Once works on Coopers Green Road are complete and the road has been reopened, the team will move into Snatts Road, where works will take place under a road closure.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we complete these essential gas network upgrades.

Update: 10.02.2026

Since 02/02/26, our team has been working on Snatts Road. Unfortunately, following a trial hole near the junction of London Road, we discovered that the gas main is surrounded by four high-voltage (HV) cables. This means this section will now require open-cut excavation, and the works will need to be replanned for safety reasons.
As a result, the team has moved further down the route and is currently working from past the Claremont Rise junction towards Rocks Road.

To allow progress to continue:
· Snatts Road will be temporarily reopened from 16th February.
· During this time, the team will move into Rocks Road to replace the final section of gas main.
· Snatts Road will then re-close from 22nd February so the team can return and complete the remaining works.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we adapt the programme to safely complete these essential gas network upgrades.

Update: 27.01.2026

Last week, the team successfully inserted the full length of the remaining gas main; however, only around 50 metres of abandonment was completed. This means approximately 200 metres of abandonment will be carried out this week, from outside Timbers to the junction of London Road.

From Monday next week, the road closure will transition from Coopers Green Road to Snatts Road, allowing the team to carry out replacement works from London Road to Cambridge Way.

Cambridge Way will also be closed for approximately two weeks to facilitate these works.

The team will continue progressing down Snatts Road over the coming weeks as the replacement works continue.
