Update: 29.04.2026

Since the half-term week, the team has been working on both gas mains in Garrets Lane, along with completing the required connections into the side roads.

This week, the road closure has moved to the junction of Brighton Road, where it will remain until the works are completed. We currently expect all works to be finished and the closure removed during the week commencing 13 May.

The team has now completed approximately two-thirds of the required mains replacement and is aiming to finish all engineering works by the week commencing 4 May.

Following this, reinstatement works will take place over the next 2–3 days, after which all site equipment, barriers, and traffic management will be removed.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation in helping us complete these works safely and efficiently.

Last week saw our team complete all engineering works and finish off the gas mains replacement in this area. This means that this whole section is PE other then the major road of Brighton Road, which will come up as a future project but no plans for now.

This week will see reinstatement take place and all site contents removed.

Update: 03.06.2025

All closures have now been removed from Thornfield Road and Pound Road, excavations will remain however the closure wasn’t needed so for the interest of the residents in this area we opened this road back up.

Our team are currently working in the close of Chalk Pit Road for a further 2 weeks and this project will be complete.

Our reinstatement team will be following behind as the team continue to progress and even when they are done engineering wise will remain to backfill, reinstate, and clear site away completely.

Update: 20.05.2025

This week saw the team move the closure from Thornfield Road j/w Chipstead Road to the junction of Pound Road. This is to allow the team to make the final gas mains connection from the previous work we done in this road.

The closure will remain for another 2 weeks and then works will hopefully be completed engineering and reinstatement will last another week after this.

Update: 06.05.2025

Works in Garrard Road and Colcokes road are now completed, with the closure and all barriers now being removed.

Update: 22.04.2025

Our WCB Utilities works in Garrard Road and Colcokes road will be completed engineering wise W/c 21st.  Barriers will most likely still be in place to allow for concrete curing and tarmac to be done.

While this is in place the team will be returning to Thornfield Road under a road closure, starting from the junction of Chipstead Road.  Works in this area are expected to take approx 5 weeks, venturing into Gale Crescent, Pound Road, and Chalk Pit Road.

Update: 08.04.2024

A closure has now been implicated in Garrard Road, the team are looking at completing this road in 2 weeks and then a additional week for reinstatement. While Garrard is being reinstated the team will look to prioritise the x2 4-day weeks and complete the remainder of Colcokes road connecting the gas main to Monks Road. Access will be maintained for all residents, however, could be restricted when we have a lorry in the way. The team on site are always happy to answer any questions residents may have regarding our work.

Update: 21.03.2025

Chipstead Road is now complete along with Pund Road and the closure has been removed. Our team has moved to Brighton Road W/c 17th and are looking to complete this in 2 weeks, our team will then move into Colcokes Road, Monks Road and Garrard Road.

Update: 28.02.2025

Last week saw our WCB Utilities team complete the works on over 50 flats, in which now have had new gas services installed. This will create better pressures for the surrounding area and better pressures for those living at the top of this buildings. Our team have moved onto Chipstead Road, which sees them having a double closure either side of the junctions. We are looking for this section to be removed by W/c 10th March, we have needed to close this section to allow us to do all 4 gas mains connections to link all mains to create a surrounding back feed from all directions. We apologise for the inconvenience this causes and hope any questions you need answering regarding our works, our team will be happy to answer on site.

Update: 13.02.2025

We have installed our booster main on shrubland road and has now created a back feed to improve pressures. Our team are currently working on Pound Road in which over 40 flats have had new gas services installed. This will create better pressures for the surrounding area. Our team will then progress to Chipstead Road aiming to complete that section in 2-3 weeks.

Update: 30.01.2025

We have installed a booster main on shrubland road and we have now created a back feed to improve pressures. Our team are currently working on Horsecroft and Lyme Regis Road for another 2 weeks in which will then see them fall into Pound road and return into Chipstead Road to complete the poor pressure section.

Update: 06.11.2024

We are still working on Wilmot Way, currently we have replaced around 500m of main and renewed over x70 services. We have approximately another 2 weeks and will look to be finished on this road in which will see us move into garden close for 2 more weeks.

Update: 11.10.2024

We are currently working on Wilmot Way, this road has needed a lot of prep work before replacing the old main. Our team are still progressing doing approximately 100m every week. Next week will see us doing some open cut work and closing Lambert road to lay a booster main to increase pressures in the local area for all using gas.

Update: 12.09.2024

We are currently finishing of our essential gas main replacement works within The Oval.  Our storage and containers will be fully clear from this area w/c 16.09.24 – and we will be moving onto Wilmot Way itself under a Road closure from the junction of Winkworth Road progressing down the road.
